About . . .
Hi, I'm Roy Shiels; independent musician & songwriter from the seaside town, of Rush, north county Dublin, Ireland. II'm decent at playing guitar, bass, drums, one-finger-piano & singing. I create, perform, produce & record alt. rock & acoustic music. I despise writing bios; and really, anything I have to say, I've written in a song... get to know me more over on my music page : )
In 2009 I released my debut record, a 5 song EP called "The Teenage Storm" & toured it with my friends, across Ireland in every shit-hole venue imaginable, as well as some nice ones too : ) ...In 2019 I released my debut, 15 track, studio album "Big Kiss" & followed it in 2020 with "Nowhere Special" & "Dark Arts" in 2021.
My earliest & most inspiring musical memory is listening to Buddy Holly's "Everyday” on scratchy vinyl with my big bro, Gav, on a stormy winter's evening when I was about 7 years old. The memory has always stayed with me - the contrast of the biting cold, dark night outside our window & the warm/safe feeling I got from a simple/innocent 50s pop song, instilled the power of music in my heart & inspired me to spend the rest of my life learning how to make my own.
I've been influenced by countless artists from many genres throughout my life though it's people like Smashing Pumpkins, Slint, Tom Petty, Weezer, Tom Waits, CCR, Arcade Fire, Beach Boys, My Bloody Valentine... that have had the most lasting affect on me & my music.
My all time favourite record & the album that literally lifts me up & out of my body, every time I listen to it, is Smashing Pumpkins' "Melon Collie And The Infinite Sadness". Making music is expensive, while you're here, please consider ordering something from the shop.
Thanks for visiting me here : )
